Falsely accused of sorcery and now awaiting execution, brave Colonel Fairfax sits calmly in his Tower of London cell. The fiercely loyal Sergeant Meryll conspires to set him free, and persuades a wandering jester and his beautiful companion to take part in the scheme. This dark comedy thus unfolds in typical convoluted Gilbert and Sullivan style.
